b) Using and applying Masters, add a footer to all pages that contains your first and last name and current page number.
c) First page must have 9 different images. All images must be placed into a consistently sized square frame, and aligned/distributed evenly in a 3x3 grid structure.
d) On pages 2-10, place 1-2 images and 1 paragraph of lorem ipsum text on each page (one large image, one small close up image). Layout structure of image and text should be consistent throughout all pages.

What to submit:
1. Print outs (trimmed to 10"x16") for all months. **Write your full name on the back in PENCIL. Pin to wall by Monday at 4:30pm. Projects pinned after 4:30pm will be marked down as late.

Prepare a digital presentation (to be created in powerpoint or InDesign) of your entire process from project 3; digital presentation to be used in final critique in order to concisely document and discuss progress through each phase of project 3. Color Resources
**Although color will not be incorporated into your project 3 until part 3, it is important you explore ways color can communicate information in your calendars.

1. Select your group members (there will be one group of three students), then figure out who will be responsible for the Winter(Dec, Jan, Feb), Spring(Mar, Apr, May), Summer (June, July, Aug), Autumn(Sept, Oct, Nov) month by the end of class today.
2. Based on your assigned season, find a quote, lyric, poem, or literary passage (between 3-4 lines in length) that relates to your months. This text selection should serve as a starting point for your conceptual studies and exploration in image development of your calendar months.

From books, design magazines, design annuals, find at least 3 examples of posters (must not be identical to examples shown in class, advertisement/movie posters are not allowed) that exhibit interesting visual layouts. Create an instructional diagram that teaches an audience or demographic how to complete a specific task. The goal of the project is to communicate a concise and clear set of instructions, in the format of a poster, that explains the essential parts and operations of a chosen task.

Description:
Create an instructional diagram that teaches an audience or demographic how to complete a specific task. The goal of the project is to communicate a concise and clear set of instructions, in the format of a poster, that explains the essential parts and operations of a chosen task.
Objectives:
+ To gain experience with vector based drawing tools and techniques.
+ To reinforce design principles that support visual choices in creative problem solving solutions.
Specifications:
Size: Tabloid sized (11" x 17") white paper.
Media: Photographs, photomontage used as drawing references. The assembly of your final comp must be done using Adobe Illustrator.
Text: Title must be set in Helvetica Bold 36pt or larger; all other text, if used, should be kept to a minimum (phrases + labels)and must be set in Helvetica 12pt.
Timeline + Deadlines:
Conceptual Brainstorming : Brainstorm 5 possible topics in sketchbook due Monday, Sept 26, 4:30pm.
Thumbnail Sketches : Create 9 different + distinct sketches (each) for 3 possible topics due Wednesday, Sept 28, 4:30pm.
Initial Layout Comps: Choose best topic and generate components in full sized layout (midpoint group crit Oct 10).
Project 2 Final Critique: Printed comp and all process work due Monday, October 17, 4:30pm.

Bring in 10 digitized/scanned photos of objects (5 of those object must be organic forms - ie plant, leaf, fruit, vegetable, etc) to next class.

Final Critique for Project 1 will take place next class, Monday, Sept 19 at 4:30pm.
What to submit:
1. Black and white printout of project on 11x17 (tabloid) plain white paper. **Write your full name on the back, in pencil. Pin to wall by Monday at 4:30pm.
2. Final PDF(X-1a format) export from Illustrator file. **Load PDF onto desktop of instructor's station by Monday at 4:30pm.
3. CD with project 1 files (organized as followed below:)
Main Project folder with naming structure: FullName_Project1_ART2643
>>"Process Docs" folder (with PDF scan of initial sketches + text content brainstorming)
>>"Design Files" folder (with Illustrator file)

Review the principles of design presentation slides and reflect on how the use of type and letterforms is effectively illustrating and portraying your personality. Don't be afraid to think metaphorically and conceptually.
Mini group critiques will be conducted during next class. Export what you have completed in Illustrator as a PDF for presentation in pre-selected groups by start of next class (4:30pm).
Be sure to focus on the overall project objectives as well:

Week 2 Day 2 (Wednesday, Aug 31) - Homework
Being creating initial Layout Comps for Project 1. Based on advice and critique of concept ideas and portrait sketches, determine which sketch best captures your personality and the overall tone you wish to strengthen in defining yourself in a typographic self portrait. Generate basic typographic elements in a tabloid paper sized layout in Illustrator.

Week 2 Day 1 (Monday, Aug 29) - Homework
1. Create 5-10 freeform sketches or traced photographs of yourself to be used in your Typographic Self-Portrait project. Be sure to explore a variety of angles, facial expressions, portrait interpretations, etc. Sketches will be reviewed at the start of next class, Wednesday, August 31, 4:30pm.
2. Begin to gather found type/letterforms to be used in Project 1 (Scan/save digital found type, save fonts, handrawn/sketch your own letterforms)

Week 1 Day 2 (Thursday, Aug 24) - Homework
1. Begin Conceptual Brainstorming for Project 1. Think about what you want to use for your textual content (your name? a description of yourself?)
In your sketchbook write out the letters, words, phrases that you intend to use in your self portrait. Being to examine the formal structure of letters, numbers, and punctuation. Look for form and shape relationships between your intended text content. Sketches and text lists due for review Monday, Aug 29, 4:30pm.
2. If you plan on using photographs in the Portrait Sketch process next week, be sure to photograph (digitally or print) yourself this weekend. The more photos you have of yourself, the better (try a variety of angles, expressions, etc). Bring tracing paper and the printed or digital copies of your photos to the next class session.

Create a self-portrait using only typographic characters (letters, numbers, punctuation). The “content” of this portrait
should consist of letterforms that spell your name and/or construct a short text to describe yourself, or how you would
like others to see you. Examine the forms of typographic elements closely to determine what will represent you best.

Week 1 Day 1 (Aug 22): Homework
1. Assignment 1: In a "visual diagram", map out the story of what you did this summer (work, travel, vacation, etc). You can use type, imagery, patterns, textures. Feel free to integrate a variety of different mediums and techniques, sketch, draw, paint, collage, etc. Be creative!
Final output must be at least 8 1/2" x 11" in size and can be physical or digital (saved as a PDF). Due at the start of Wednesday's class session, Aug 24.
2. As of next week, August 29, all students must bring a laptop (loaded with Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), a mouse, and sketchbook to every class session.
If you already have your laptop, please bring it to the next class session as I will show you how to install the necessary print drivers and software in order to print in the labs.
Final output must be at least 8 1/2" x 11" in size and can be physical or digital (saved as a PDF). Due at the start of Wednesday's class session, Aug 24.
